Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups plain flour
  • 2 tablespoons NESTL� BAKERS’ CHOICE Cocoa
  • 2 teaspoons bicarbonate of soda
  • 1/2 cups caster sugar
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cups vegetable oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon red liquid meals colouring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 2 teaspoons white vinegar
  • Heart-shaped sprinkles, to serve

Cream cheese frosting

  • 1/2 x 250g blocks cream cheese, softened
  • 150g butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 2 cups icing sugar combination

Method

  • Step 1

    Preheat oven to 180C/160C fan-forced. Grease an 8cm-deep, 21cm times 23. 5cm (base) heart-shaped cake pan. Line base and sides with baking paper.

  • Stage 2

    Sift flour, cocoa and bicarbonate of soda into a large bowl. Stir in sugar. Make a well in the centre. Lightly whisk buttermilk, oil, egg, red food colouring, fact and vinegar together in a bowl. Enhance well. Stir until smooth and combined. Pour into prepared pan. Cook for 1 hour 10 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean. Stand in pan for 10 minutes. Transfer to a cable rack to cool completely.

  • Step 3 At the same time, make Cream cheese frosting Using an electric powered mixer, beat cream cheese, butter and essence until pale and creamy. Progressively add icing sugar, beating until nicely combined. Cut cake in half horizontally. Place base of cake on a plate. Spread over �? � of the frosting. Top with cake top. Spread top and sides with remaining frosting. Sprinkle with heart-shaped sprinkles. Assist.
